Helpful Tips

  • Tip #1 – Bring along a friend. Delivering with someone makes the whole process faster and more efficient, especially when it comes to opening doors while carrying boxes. Also, if you’re not available for a week or two, the other person can act as your replacement driver.

  • Tip #2 – Set a reminder. We’re all human and have lots of things to remember. Forgetting to do Tomchei and remembering at 10pm is the worst. Set a repeating reminder on your phone around the time you usually deliver.

  • Tip #3 – Deliver at the same time every week. Not only will this help you form a routine, the recipients will be happier, knowing that they can expect their box at the same time every week.

  • Tip #4 – Read the label on each box carefully. The label sometimes has important instructions about how to deliver the box. (Some examples are: calling before, leaving it in the garage, bringing it to the side door or waiting until the recipient takes the box inside.)

  • Tip #5 – Use the carts in the warehouse. There are about 5 black carts in the warehouse, for your convenience. Use them to bring the milk/chicken from the fridge to the boxes, or to wheel your boxes out of the garage door to your car.

Tomchei Terms

Below are some terms that are important for all Tomchei drivers to be familiar with:

  • Warehouse – The Tomchei warehouse, located at 3696 Dufferin Street, where the boxes are all packed and picked up from.
  • Route – A group of boxes (usually 3-4) that are delivered by the same driver every week. Each route has a route number (from 1-60).
  • Driver – You!
  • Backup/replacement driver – Someone who does your route for a week or two when you’re out of town or unavailable.
  • Recipient – The people that you deliver the boxes to.
  • Box is on hold – The recipient has requested not to receive their box temporarily. Their box won’t be packed and you won’t find it in the warehouse for those weeks. (If it’s there, let us know.)
  • Box is cancelled – The recipient no longer requires a Tomchei delivery, so their box has been permanently cancelled. You won’t find the box in the warehouse from now on. (If it’s there, let us know.)
